Window on village life

10:27am Saturday 4th December 2010

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will dedicate a new stained glass window in a village church next week.

Dr Sentamu will dedicate the window at St Nicholas Church, Wigginton, at a service at 7.30pm on Monday – St Nicholas Day.

The Rev Steve Jarratt, vicar of St Nicholas, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Archbishop Sentamu to Wigginton. This service marks the 150th anniversary of the building of the current church, and the Archbishop will be dedicating our new stained glass window by Ann Sotheran, a renowned York stained glass artist. “We wanted to commission a new window to mark the anniversary, and the villagers were very generous in raising the MONEY to do this. In 1860, the people of Wigginton raised £700 to build the new church – in 2010 they raised £4,500 for the stained glass window.”
