Banking on house

10:30am Saturday 4th December 2010

A FORMER bank in a village near York could be turned into a house if developers gain approval for the scheme.

City of York Council is expected to make a decision in January on whether the proposals to turn the Halifax branch in Main Street, Bishopthorpe, into a three-bedroom property can go ahead.

It would involve an outbuilding at the rear of the site being demolished and a two-storey extension created in its place to create extra accommodation space, with the applicants saying the design would retain the original character of the 19th Century building and would not harm the Bishopthorpe Conservation Area.
