MCTS stands for Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist and if you choose to go with it, you will have your knowledge in a particular Microsoft technology enhanced. This includes SQL Server, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista and many more.

If you get a certification, this will prove that you are a committed person and that you are willing to work a lot for your career and for satisfying your organization, if you are working in one. People who already have this certification are able to debug, implement, troubleshoot and build a certain Microsoft technology. When you will have your certification, you will become a part of the Microsoft Certified Professional community. This means that you have access to various benefits, activities, info and many more. You will never need to earn a MCP.

But in order to get the certification, you will need to go through some exams. But before doing that, choosing the technology you want to get certified in is mandatory. You should know that there is 1 functional exam and after that, you will be able to advance to higher levels. There is a total number of seventeen designations that are offered by Microsoft. There will be lots of exams which are just combinations and this allows getting a basic certification and having the option to expand it at a later time.

An assessment quiz is something that will help you a lot with your MCTS certification. This is offered by Microsoft and it will give you the level you are at regarding technology. Practical exams and self guiding books are also available to purchase, but they are only for the individuals who are able to learn things on their own.

The main exam will last around 4 hours. You can leave the classroom if you finish it faster. Also, you should know that as long as Microsoft will continue mainstream support for the related technologies, your certification will be valid.
